For this project, I was asked to re-design of two of the characters for a point on a historical time line with a limited colour palette of reds and blacks, made up mostly of red fabric given by the university. The setting of Life is a Dream is in a court, so having been given the 1950s, I chose to look into high end fashion. Inspired by the designs of Dior’s new look, Balenciaga’s shapes, and the Chanel suit, my concept revolves around the characters’ wealth. My textiles use modern technology to create this, with patterns inspired by 1950s prints and hand weaving inspired by the Chanel tweed.
